After a two year hiatus due to the pandemic, the Merrie Monarch Festivies returned this year in full form. St. Joseph School had the honor of being involved with a few activities and events that happened during the week.
Our hula hālau, under the direction of Kumu Hula Sammye Kuʻualoha Young, was able to perform with Hālau Nā Lei Hiwahiwa O Kuʻualoha at two different venues on two separate days. Their very first performance as a hālau took place at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel in front of a packed audience. Despite being nervous, they all put on a huge smile and did fantastic.

Our cheerleaders had the privilege of participating in the Merrie Monarch Parade. They represented St. Joseph School with pride and received a lot of support along the parade route.
Mahalo to all who made the day a success: GG Towing for providing the float. Kumu Kipapa, her ʻohana, Sensei Gomes and the students who decorated the float. Mrs. Moreau, Mrs. Villena, Ms. Sugiyama, Mrs. Arianoff and her family for walking in the parade. A very big thank you to Cardinal Joe for making a surprise appearance and cheering along with the girls.
