St. Joseph School Jr./Sr. High Division started the Lenten Season with an outdoor Ash Wednesday Prayer Service. It was a beautiful morning for fellowship. The Hawaiian Language students did a piko ceremony to help prepare the students for the prayer service. The oli, or chant, they recited is done before Papa ʻŌlelo (Hawaiian Language Class) begins. It is meant to center your mind and spirit so that you are ready to recieve the lesson of the day.
The significance of doing piko before the prayer service was to center the student body and prepare their minds and spirits so they would be ready to enter the Lenten Season of reflection and preparation before the celebration of Easter.
Following the prayer service, the Jr./Sr. High Division spent the remainder of the day beautifying the campus.
