“Breakfast with the Bishop” Brings Faith, Dialogue, and Connection to Saint Joseph School Seniors
Hilo, Hawaiʻi – March 25, 2026
Seniors at Saint Joseph School gathered Wednesday morning for a meaningful “Breakfast with the Bishop,” welcoming Bishop Larry Silva for a time of prayer, conversation, and guidance as they prepare for life beyond high school.

Held in the Student Lounge, the event brought together school leadership and diocesan representatives, including Head of School Maile Kipapa and guests from the Diocese’s Office of Evangelization and Catechesis. The morning was coordinated by Campus Minister Chrislyn Villena.

The gathering began with a traditional oli welcome by students, followed by introductions that highlighted each senior’s next steps, including intended colleges and fields of study. Bishop Silva then led the opening prayer and blessing of the meal, setting a reflective tone for the morning.

After breakfast, students were encouraged to remain active in their faith after graduation through initiatives such as Newman Connection and diocesan endorsed ministries such as EPIC Hawaiʻi. Bishop Silva then addressed the seniors directly, offering encouragement grounded in faith, personal responsibility, and continued connection to the Church.

A question-and-answer session followed, giving students the opportunity to engage openly with the Bishop on topics relevant to their lives and future. In his message to the Class of 2026, Bishop Silva encouraged students to remain grounded in their faith, stating, “Stay close to Jesus through His Word and His sacraments, especially the Eucharist. Nurture this relationship with Him to become a good and faithful person. Then and only then will you be successful.” The event concluded with words of gratitude and a final blessing over the senior class.

With 14 seniors in attendance, the gathering created a personal setting for meaningful dialogue and reflection. As students prepare to graduate, the event served as a reminder that their formation extends beyond the classroom, rooted in faith and sustained through community.
