"One Day Academy" Excursion

On Monday, November 10, students gathered at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo for a morning of breakfast and global dialogue, led by Dr. Su-Mi, whose passion for international affairs set an inspiring tone. The session opened with discussions on key topics such as international relations theories, the United Nations, and international law—foundations essential for understanding today’s global challenges.
Our students were divided into five groups representing different countries—Fiji, the United States, Germany, Australia, and Bangladesh. Each group selected an issue from the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals to analyze and address. Throughout the afternoon, students collaborated to discuss the issues, develop solutions, and deliver presentations showcasing their approaches. The session concluded with a vote to determine which country’s strategy deserved greater attention.
The workshop provided a meaningful opportunity and experience for SJS HS Students to recognize their roles as emerging global leaders—not only for Hawai‘i, but for the world.
