On Tuesday, April 29, 13 students went to Oahu for Japan Day 2025. JASH, Japan-America Society of Hawaii, invited St. Joseph School for this cultural event. The students experienced wearing a Kimono, participating in the bon dance, learning about calligraphy, Japanese abacus, Karate, tea ceremony, ikebana, and hanahuda. It was such a full and positive encounter for them!
They also went on the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii tour to learn the history of Japanese immigrants. After that, we went to Don Quijote for a Japanese-Cultured scavenger hunt. They were challenged to find snacks/food with some Japanese ingredients such as Matcha, Wasabi, and Kinako. The first three participants received prizes. This cultural experience was offered by JASH and their generous donors. You can tell how much they enjoyed it by their faces.
