February: Month of Peace
February is Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution month. The month of February is very special in the Rotary Calendar because it includes the anniversary of the first meeting of Rotary held on February 23, 1905 in Chicago.
St.Joseph Interact club is sponsored by Rotary Club of Hilo Bay. Sensei is also a member. The Interact Club was on the mission to share the story of Sadako who was a victim of atomic bomb in Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. The students made over 50 containers with origami cranes with a thread and beads, also how to combine origami cranes together. They also made origami crane leis.
Ms.Charene Iboshi helped us share this with the country office, our mayor, and other facilities.
On Tuesday, February 25, we placed a peace pole in front of St.Joseph Jugh School with 8 languages, English, Hawaiian, Japanese, Tagalog, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, and German. The students dug, cut roots and pored cement.
Thank you so much, Mr.Dannie for helping us!
