HOE WAʻA DEC. 7

Canoe Paddling Distance Race

December 2, 2024

The energy is building as high school paddlers from across the island gear up for an exciting canoe race in Hilo Bay this weekend. This event brings together young athletes, their schools, and the community in a celebration of teamwork, resilience, and cultural pride.

The competition will feature teams from accross the island, who will paddle through the bay's challenging course in a test of strength, strategy, and synchronization. High school canoe racing not only highlights athletic skill but also fosters a deep connection to Hawaiian heritage, as students honor the traditions of wa‘a (canoe) culture.

The first race will begin at 9am, with multiple heats and categories giving spectators plenty of action to enjoy. Families, friends, and community members are encouraged to gather at Hilo Bay Front to cheer on these dedicated young paddlers.

Come out and support the next generation of paddling talent and experience the aloha spirit in action at our race this weekend!
