The Feast of the Immaculate Conception 2024
December 2, 2024
The Feast of the Immaculate Conception, celebrated on December 8, is one of the most significant Marian feasts in the Catholic Church. It honors the belief that the Virgin Mary was conceived without original sin, a grace bestowed upon her by God in preparation for her role as the mother of Jesus Christ.
This doctrine, formally defined by Pope Pius IX in 1854, highlights God's plan of salvation, emphasizing the purity and holiness of Mary from the moment of her conception. The Immaculate Conception is not to be confused with the Annunciation (the announcement to Mary by the Angel Gabriel that she would bear Jesus) or the Nativity (Mary's birth).
On this feast day, Catholics around the world reflect on the special grace given to Mary and her unwavering "yes" to God's will. It is a reminder of the hope and purity that Christians are called to embody in their faith. Churches often celebrate the day with special Masses, prayers, and processions, inviting all to honor Mary as the Immaculate Conception.
In honor of this Holy Day, St. Joseph School will be holding a Mass service on December 9 at 9am in the high school gym. Rev. Apolinario Ty, SSS, will preside over our mass service.
Mary, pray for us!
