Walk to The Box Event

“A Walk to the Box”

October 17, 2024

A “Walk to the Box” event will be held on October 22, Tuesday, at the Kamehameha statue in Bayfront Hilo. As part of the Our Kaiāulu Votes initiative, St. Joseph School students will participate in this sign-waving event to inspire Native Hawaiians and the community at large to cast their votes in the upcoming election.

The event is supported by a coalition of Native Hawaiian-serving organizations, including Kamehameha Schools, the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement.

St. Joseph School student leaders will join the initiative on Tuesday, accompanied by mentors and teachers, including Mrs. Villena, Campus Minister and Student Council Chair, and Sensei Gomes, Interact Club Chair and Rotary member.

We believe that participating in elections is a civic duty that helps ensure governance reflects the needs and values of the community. The Church teaches that all people have dignity and that social justice should be a priority. Voting allows us, as Catholics, to advocate for policies that support the marginalized and promote the common good.

E koho pāloka! Cast your vote!
