High School Students Compete in the 21st Annual JASH Japan Wizards Statewide Academic Team Competition

On Saturday, February 24, nine of our high school students competed in the 21st Annual JASH Japan Wizards Statewide Academic Team Competition on Oʻahu.

Sponsored by the Japan - American Society of Hawaiʻi, this event is a challenging, fun-filled academic team competition that tests high school students on different aspects of Japan. It is open to Hawaii’s high school students who are studying Japanese or have an interest in Japan.

Students compete as members of three-person teams representing their schools. St. Joseph School was able to enter three teams.

Above, we have the team of: Hilinaʻi, Miya, and Khallie-Ann standing with Sensei Gomes. Below, Sensei poses with the team of: Raylee, Axel, and Nicolas.

This competion goes beyond the Japanese language and asks students about their knowledge of Japanese art and culture, daily life and customs, economy, food, geography, history, politics and government, religion, U.S./Hawaii-Japan ties and more.

Our third team did so well that they recieved the "Dr. Michael Leineweber Award".

Congratulations to Elina, Perseas, and Yuriy, pictured below. Not only were they recognized with the award, but they also won a free trip to Japan!

Great job to all of our Cardinal scholars. You make St. Joseph proud!
